About us

St John's Methodist is a modern Christian church.  As Christians we believe God is love and that Jesus, the Son, came to earth to show that love to the world. We believe the Holy Spirit helps and enables us to live out our everyday lives in the Christian faith following the way of love.

The town centre church building of St John's in Market Weighton has recently been refurnished creating a light and open area suitable for services and social activities.  You can see the many services, groups and community activities elsewhere on this website. Although we are modern in outlook we are mindful of our rich Methodist tradition. In the church building the balcony has been preserved along with the historic church organ. The adjacent chapel is the oldest surviving Methodist Chapel in the East Riding of Yorkshire dating back to 1786 and is one from which John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, preached.  This too has been restored and opened during 2012.

The lively Sunday morning 10.30am services are suitable for all ages and there are numerous activities during the week. If you would like to visit us, whether for a service or to enjoy a simple breakfast of tea on toast on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning you will receive a warm and friendly welcome and experience a happy family atmosphere.
The church is well attended with all age groups being represented. There are many young families and teenagers. The building has comfortable seating and modern facilities, including disabled access and baby changing area.
